surging after replacing filter.
After I change my filter, the pump surges. It continues to
run, but builds up a surge with a cycle time of 1 min. or so.
Does this mean I have a vacuum leak? Could this be as simple
as not getting a good seal when I closed the filter?
Will this harm the motor and pump? |

Post subject: Pump surging after replacing filter Yes it will
damage the pump. And yes you probably have an air pocket in the
wet end that will not release. To do so turn on the jets, then
loosen ( but do not undo all the way) the 1-1/2" or 2" nut on
the front of the motor. Water and air will leak out. After the
air is gone the pump will stop surging. Once this happens hand
tighten the nut. If it drips use a pair of channel locks and
gently tighten until the drip stops. If you over tighten you
will crack the nut. On top of your filter lid do you have an air
bleed valve? If so when you change the filter before you pull
the lid off you should turn the power off, loosen the bleed
valve, replace the filter, turn the power back on, when water
starts to come out of the bleed valve tighten until it stops
dripping. This will help stop the air lock problem. Sometimes an
air lock will work itself out after a day or so. But by then the
motor may be damaged beyond hope. |
