This is a simple step by step directions for the use of
your Leisure Time Chemicals. The first step starts with fresh water.
Please read the entire bottle before use of any
spa chemicals. This is just an
outline to go by.

Step 1:
Test Strips
- test for Bromine, Chlorine, Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness, and pH levels
in your spa water. The color levels should register in the ideal range
that is indicated for each. To use dip test strip in water make two
circles and remove (DO NOT SHAKE EXCESS WATER OFF). Match colors with the
appropriate chart on the back of the bottle. Adjust the levels
accordingly. Adjust the Alkalinity first then adjust the pH by using
Spa Up or
Spa Down. Then adjust the
Calcium level. To maintain spa chemistry test the water at least once (1)
a week and adjust chemicals as needed.
Step 2:
Metal Gon –
is a unique formulation of chelating or binding agents that will react
with any metal contaminants. Pour entire bottle around the perimeter of
the spa. Turn tub on in filter mode. Let the water circulate for 30
minutes.
Step 3:
pH Balance
– is a liquid formulation of buffers that eliminates the need to adjust
the calcium levels in addition to the pH. Pour entire bottle of pH Balance
per 500 gallons of water. Let water circulate for 5 minutes.
Step 4:
Sodium Bromide – acts as a reserve for your bromine and is activated
with shock. Add one (1) packet to water.
You will need to do the above
steps every time you drain and clean the hot tub. (3 times per year)
Sanitizers
Bromine Tablets – is
the equivalent to chlorine as your sanitizer. This is what kills the
bacteria in your spa. They are slow dissolving and you should always have
tablets in the spa. Using your test strips test the bromine level at least
once a week. Add 1 tablet at a time until you are at the ideal range.
Spa 56 - as a sanitizer
this kills the bacteria in your spa like bromine. You must keep a chlorine
residual of 2 – 3 ppm at all times. Test spa water with you test strips.
If the chlorine level is too low, add ½ ounce per 500 gallons retest until
the proper level has been reached wait 5 minutes before entering the spa.
This should be added daily to maintain the proper levels. You will also
need to check your pH levels more closely.
Reserve - is a liquid
Bromine salt that remains in the spa until shock is added. It is only when
the shock is added that it becomes a disinfectant. Reserve & Shock is a
chlorine free sanitizing system. Add 4 ounces per 250 gallons into a
circulating spa. Add 1 ounce of shock to activate the salts. Test bromine
level repeat until ideal range is acquired. Test the bromine level 1(once)
a day. To maintain proper levels add Reserve 1(once) a week and shock.
OZ – is your shock. It
oxidizes the water to dissolve solid waste that is left behind from the
bathers. After bathing turn of blowers and jets. Turn on filtration mode
and add three (3) tablets per 250 gallons of water. Run system for 15
minutes then turn system of and replace cover. This should be done at a
minimum of once a week. Sometimes it is recommended to use 1 tablet after
each daily use. ( It is important to shock the spa after you have tested
and adjusted the chemistry. Shock will give improper readings if you shock
the spa then test it. Also DO NOT use the spa for 8 hours.)
Balancers
pH Balance Plus
– is a granular formation the locks in the pH, Alkalinity and
Calcium in hard water (recommended for the Maryland Area), from refill to
refill. So adjusting weekly will be easier. Add ½ a bottle for up to 250
gallons and the entire bottle for up to 500 gallons. Turn jets on and
allow to circulate for 15 minutes. (Water may be cloudy until the granules
are completely dissolved). Only use after you have drained and cleaned
your spa.
Spa Up –
brings the pH and Alkalinity level of your spa water back up to and ideal
range. Test the water with your test strips. . If the Alkalinity level is
low add ½ capful to spa let the water circulate for 15 minutes then test again. Repeat if
necessary. If the pH
level is low, add 1 capful to spa let the water circulate for 2 minutes
then test again. Repeat if necessary.
Liquid Spa Up
- brings the pH and Alkalinity level of your spa water back down to and
ideal range. Test the water with your test strips. If the Alkalinity level
is low add 1ounce to spa let the water circulate for 30 minutes then test
again. Repeat if necessary. If the pH level is low, add 1 ounce to spa let
the water circulate for 10 minutes then test again. Repeat if necessary.
Spa Down -
brings the pH and Alkalinity level of your spa water back down to and
ideal range. Test the water with your test strips. If the Alkalinity level
is high add ½ capful to spa let the water circulate for 15 minutes then
test again. Repeat if necessary. If the pH level is high, add 1 capful to
spa let the water circulate for 2 minutes then test again. Repeat if
necessary.
Liquid Spa Down
- brings the pH and Alkalinity level of your spa water back down to and
ideal range. Test the water with your test strips. If the Alkalinity level
is high add 1ounce to spa let the water circulate for 30 minutes then test
again. Repeat if necessary. If the pH level is high, add 1 ounce to spa
let the water circulate for 10 minutes then test again. Repeat if
necessary.
Calcium Booster
– is used to bring low levels of calcium up to a normal range. Wrong
calcium levels will damage the spa shell and components, and may cause
foaming. To remove calcium from the spa you must do a partial drain and
add water that has a lower calcium level. Test the water with your test
kit or strips. If the calcium level is low turn on jets and add 1 ounce to
raise the level 7ppm (example: if your reading says 72 you will have to
add 4 ounces per 500 gallons). Let spa circulate for 1 – 2 hours and
retest. Repeat if necessary. ( Only use if you are 100% sure that the
hardness level is actually low.)
Alkalinity
Increaser – determines how your pH level will change and react when
you add your other chemicals. Test water with you test strips. If
Alkalinity level is low add2 tablespoons (1 ounce) to spa water. Turn spa
on and let circulate for 30 minutes. Test and repeat if necessary.
Maintenance
Instant Filter
Clean – cleans and sanitizes your filter cartridge. You should clean
your filter at least once (1) a month and replace it once (1) a year. To
clean hold filter on the ground at a 45 degree angle and hose out any
heavy debris. Then you will saturate the entire filter with the
concentrated cleaner. Wait 15 minutes and hose off the cleaner until the
water runs clear.
Defender –
organic polymers that aid in the removal and prevention of scale formation
and helps prevent the precipitation of dissolved solids. Can be used when
water is cloudy or weekly. Add 2 ounces to spa and circulate for 1 hour.
Note water may be cloudy as it begins to work.
Enzyme – is a
formulation of natural enzymes that will break down oil, lotion, and
organics that are left behind from bathers. The particles can build up
and cause scum line and odors in the spa. Use weekly. Add 1 ounce per
250 gallons.
Bright &
Clear – is a special formulation that combine the small
particles that cause cloudy water to bond together to form larger
particles that can be filtered out. Add 2 ounces per 800 gallons. Turn
high speed jets on for 3 minutes to circulate. Turn off high speed and
turn on filter (low speed) mode and let circulate until water is
clear.
Foam Down – is used
to stop excessive foam. To use shake well and squirt directly on foam to
dissolve (about ½ ounce at a time). Use only when needed.
